The Labour Party (LP) has decided to zone its 2027 presidential ticket to Southern Nigeria, effectively barring aspirants from the North from contesting for the position on its platform.
National Chairperson, Nenadi Usman, announced this decision in Abuja, stating it was a settled matter within the party.
Usman emphasized that the party’s decision aims to provide clarity for prospective aspirants ahead of the next general election.
However, there’s a contradiction as the Labour Party later denied zoning the presidency to any geographical zone, stating candidates must emerge through competitive and democratic processes.
The party has fixed May 23 for its presidential primary and is preparing for the 2027 general election.
