Adebayo Adelabu, Nigeria’s Minister of Power, is considering resigning from his position by March 31, 2026, to contest the Oyo State governorship election in 2027.
This move follows President Bola Tinubu’s directive requiring political appointees with electoral ambitions to resign.
Adelabu, who previously contested the APC governorship primaries in May 2022, is keen on securing the party’s ticket.
His tenure as Minister has been marked by criticisms of poor power supply and frequent grid collapses.
The APC has reportedly settled on Senator Sharafadeen Alli as its preferred candidate, citing concerns over Adelabu’s perceived controversies and electability.
However, Adelabu’s aide maintains that the minister has not received any instruction from the President to step down.
