A fresh crisis is brewing within the Kwara State chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC) as aggrieved party stakeholders accuse Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq of running the party as a personal enterprise and sidelining loyal members, elders, and grassroots mobilisers.
The Integrity Group of the APC in Kwara State warns that the party risks losing its grip on the state in the 2027 general elections if urgent corrective measures are not taken.
The group alleges that critical decisions are taken unilaterally without consultation, and dissenting voices are suppressed.
They also accuse the governor of manipulating party structures to favor certain interests and undermining internal democracy.
The stakeholders have called on the national leadership of the APC and President Bola Ahmed Tinubu to intervene and restore fairness, inclusiveness, and internal democracy within the party.
The group has identified several concerns, including:
- Lack of transparency and accountability in governance
- Complacency on security issues, worsening the fragile security landscape
- Irregularities in the APC e-registration exercise, favoring Kwara Central Senatorial District
- Alleged plot to impose an unpopular candidate for the 2027 governorship elections
