Olajumoke Akinjide, a former Minister of State for the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), has resigned from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) after more than two decades of membership.

In a letter dated March 30, 2026, addressed to her ward chairman in Ona Ara LGA of Oyo state, Akinjide stated that her resignation takes immediate effect, citing personal reflection as the reason for her decision.

Akinjide, who served as minister between 2011 and 2015, expressed gratitude for the opportunities and experiences she gained during her time in the party.

She also wished the PDP success in the future. Sources close to her indicate that she is expected to join the All Progressives Congress (APC).

Akinjide’s resignation comes amid shifting political currents in Nigeria, with several politicians reassessing their affiliations ahead of the 2027 general elections.

Her departure is seen as a significant loss for the PDP, particularly in Oyo state, where she has a strong network.

Akinjide has a long history in Nigerian politics, having served as special assistant to former President Olusegun Obasanjo on FCT matters, G77 affairs, and Nigerians in the Diaspora Organisation from 2001 to 2003.
