The Defence Headquarters has placed troops on nationwide alert ahead of the Easter celebrations, assuring Nigerians of enhanced security across the country.

Speaking during an end-of-month briefing in Abuja, the Director of Defence Media Operations, Michael Onoja, said the Armed Forces had activated heightened vigilance to prevent any security breaches during the festive period.

He noted that similar measures were adopted during previous celebrations such as Christmas and Eid-el-Fitr, adding that security agencies would remain fully alert.

“Festive periods often come with heightened security concerns, but our troops are on alert and will not relax. We are committed to ensuring a safe Easter for all Nigerians,” he said.

Onoja also highlighted ongoing collaboration with the United States, stating that support in intelligence sharing and training was strengthening Nigeria’s counter-terrorism operations.

According to him, while the impact of the partnership may not be immediately visible, its effects are expected to become evident in the coming weeks.

He disclosed that U.S. assistance includes intelligence on the movement and location of threats, which Nigerian troops are expected to act upon.

The Defence Headquarters had earlier confirmed the deployment of about 100 U.S. military personnel to Nigeria in February for technical support, training, and advisory roles in ongoing security operations.

Despite the collaboration, concerns remain over persistent insecurity in parts of the country, even as the military expresses confidence that improved outcomes will soon be seen.
