Albert Mazibuko, a legendary member of South Africa’s iconic group Ladysmith Black Mambazo, has passed away at the age of 77.
Mazibuko, who joined the group in 1969, was a key figure in shaping their sound and spreading their message of peace, love, and harmony globally.
The group, known for their Grammy-winning music, paid tribute to Mazibuko, describing him as a “wise elder” and a “saint” who was kind to a fault.
He played a crucial role in preserving the group’s history and mentoring younger members.
Mazibuko’s contributions to South African music are immense, having helped bring isicathamiya, a traditional Zulu a cappella style, to international audiences.
He was also part of the group’s collaboration with Paul Simon on the acclaimed album Graceland.
