According to the police, the Divisional Police Officer in Igando responded promptly after the accident was reported and visited the scene.

“The Command is aware of the incident, which is a fatal motor accident. Following the report, the DPO Igando promptly visited the scene. The corpse has been deposited at the mortuary, while the driver involved is in police custody. The vehicle has also been impounded for further investigation,” the statement read.

The police added that the case has been transferred to the Area Command for further handling, assuring the public that all necessary legal actions would be taken in line with the law.

The incident involved a female student of Lagos State University, identified simply as Abdul Rasheed Adenike Azeezat, who was reportedly crushed to death by a vehicle around 7:00 p.m. on Saturday in Igando.

Following the tragedy, a video circulating on social media showed a group of students storming the Area M Police Division, alleging that officers were attempting to shield the driver and cover up the case.

The students have since demanded justice for their colleague, while the police urged residents to remain calm as investigations continue.
