Nigeria’s Flamingos are set to face Guinea women’s U-17 team in the next round of the FIFA U-17 Women’s World Cup qualifiers after the West African side cruised past Niger.

Guinea secured their place with an emphatic 8-2 aggregate victory, sealing progression with a 3-0 home win in the second leg after a 5-2 first-leg triumph. Their dominant display across both matches underlined their attacking quality ahead of the clash with Nigeria.

The Flamingos, who received a bye into the second round as Africa’s top-ranked side, will begin their qualifying campaign against Guinea later this month. The first leg is scheduled for May 22–24, while the return leg will take place between May 29 and 31.

The winner of the tie will advance to the final qualifying round in July, where a spot at the global tournament will be decided.

Nigeria head into the fixture with a strong history in the competition, having qualified for eight of the last nine editions. Their best outing came in 2022, when they finished third, followed by a quarter-final appearance in the Dominican Republic and a round-of-16 finish at the 2025 edition in Morocco.

The upcoming encounter promises to be a crucial test, with both sides aiming to move a step closer to qualification for the tournament, which Morocco is set to host annually through 2029.
