Wolverhampton Wanderers have been relegated from the Premier League following a disappointing 2025/26 season, leaving Nigerian striker Tolu Arokodare’s future at the club in doubt.
Wolves’ relegation was confirmed on Monday night after West Ham United’s draw with Crystal Palace made it mathematically impossible for them to escape the drop. The club are now 16 points from safety with just five matches left to play.

The result ends an eight-year stay in the Premier League for Wolves, a period that included European qualification under former manager Nuno Espírito Santo.
However, the current campaign has been defined by poor form and instability. Wolves have managed just three wins in 33 league games, leaving them bottom of the table despite multiple managerial changes, including the sack of Vítor Pereira and the appointment of Rob Edwards in November.
Arokodare, who joined Wolves for £23 million from Genk last summer, has made 28 league appearances this season, scoring three goals and providing one assist. His efforts were not enough to prevent the club’s relegation.

His position at the club has also come under scrutiny following reports of a dressing-room altercation with teammate Mateus Mane after a 4–0 defeat to West Ham earlier this month. He was later left on the bench during Wolves’ 3–0 loss to Leeds United, further fuelling speculation over his future.
Despite having four years left on his contract, Arokodare is now widely expected to leave Molineux this summer as Wolves prepare for life in the Championship.
The club’s relegation has been linked to poor recruitment and a steady decline in performance over recent seasons, undoing earlier progress in the Premier League.
Attention will now turn to rebuilding ahead of the new campaign, while Arokodare weighs up his next move to revive his career.
