Nigerian technology startup Terra Industries has unveiled a range of defence systems, including interceptor drones and mine-clearing unmanned vehicles, aimed at supporting military operations against insurgents.
The new technologies were presented on Monday in Abuja and are expected to enhance Nigeria’s counter-insurgency efforts, particularly in detecting and neutralising improvised explosive devices (IEDs).
Nigeria has faced more than 17 years of Islamist insurgency, with recent attacks increasingly involving drones and roadside explosives targeting military formations.
Speaking at the unveiling, Terra Industries CEO Nathan Nwachukwu said the company is expanding into defence innovation with advanced systems designed for modern warfare.
“We are unveiling interceptor UAVs, minesweepers, unmanned ground vehicles capable of detecting IEDs, and battlefield intelligence software,” he said.
The company, which previously focused on civilian drone technology and security equipment, is now positioning itself as a key player in defence solutions.
Also speaking, Major General Babatunde Alaya, head of the Defence Industries Corporation of Nigeria (DICON), said collaboration with local innovators is critical to addressing the growing threat posed by explosive devices.
He noted that the partnership with Terra Industries could help reduce troop casualties and improve operational efficiency in conflict zones.
