Merseyside Police have arrested an Everton supporter for alleged racist abuse during a Premier League clash with Manchester City on Monday.
The incident occurred at the Hill Dickinson Stadium, where Everton and City played out a 3–3 draw. Authorities confirmed that a 71-year-old man from Nottinghamshire was detained on suspicion of a racially aggravated public order offence after reports from fans and stewards.
Police said the suspect has been released on bail with strict conditions, including a ban from going within one mile of any designated stadium for several hours before, during, and after matches, while investigations continue.
Everton FC condemned the alleged behaviour, stressing that racism and discrimination have no place in football or society, and pledged full cooperation with authorities.
The abuse was reportedly directed at Ghana international Antoine Semenyo, marking the second time this season he has been targeted by racist incidents.
Meanwhile, Manchester City commended the swift response by both Everton and police, while also revealing that England defender Marc Guehi suffered racist abuse on social media after the match.
City reiterated their support for the affected players, emphasizing a zero-tolerance stance against all forms of discrimination in football.
