Two staff members of the Ibadan Electricity Distribution Company Plc (IBEDC) were abducted by gunmen on Wednesday, April 29, 2026, while on official duty in the Ogunmakin area along the Ibadan–Ijebu Ode Road.
IBEDC management confirmed the incident in a statement, saying the employees were “whisked away” by unidentified assailants during the assignment. The abduction has raised fresh concerns over the safety of essential service workers in field locations.
“We are deeply concerned about this situation, and our thoughts are with our colleagues and their families at this difficult time,” the company stated.
IBEDC, which oversees electricity distribution across several South-West states, said it has engaged relevant security agencies to facilitate the safe rescue of the abducted workers.
“IBEDC is working closely with relevant security agencies to ensure the safe return of the affected staff. We are also in active engagement with their families, providing the necessary support,” the statement read.
“Given the sensitive nature of this incident and ongoing efforts to resolve it, we are unable to provide further details at this time. We kindly request understanding and restraint as we prioritise the safety and well-being of those involved,” it added.
The company did not disclose the identities of the victims, a move believed to be in line with ongoing rescue efforts.
The Ibadan–Ijebu Ode Road is a major transport corridor linking parts of Oyo and Ogun states. The area has seen rising security concerns, making the latest abduction particularly troubling for road users and field workers.
IBEDC assured customers and stakeholders that its operations remain stable and that service delivery has not been disrupted. The company said it would provide updates as developments unfold.
The incident highlights ongoing security challenges in the country and the risks faced by workers maintaining critical infrastructure.
