Hon. Anas Adamu Laushi, a former chairman of Guri Local Government Area in Jigawa State and House of Representatives aspirant under the African Democratic Congress, has died in captivity after being abducted on the Abuja–Kaduna highway.
Laushi and fellow ADC chieftain Aliyu Tukur Gantsa were kidnapped last Wednesday while travelling from Kano to Abuja for a political meeting. The abductors initially demanded ₦200 million but later agreed to ₦50 million.
According to Hotpen, Laushi, who suffered from asthma and hypertension, had been without medication for days and his health deteriorated in captivity. His driver and son delivered the ransom, after which Gantsa was released and Laushi’s son was shown his father’s corpse.
The incident has thrown the Jigawa ADC family into mourning, with party members describing Laushi as a man of the people known for his integrity. As of press time, no official statement had been released by Jigawa ADC.
The Abuja–Kaduna highway remains notorious for kidnappings, with lawmakers repeatedly calling for stronger security measures to end attacks on commuters.
