The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission has taken the former Minister of Power, Saleh Mamman, into custody following his recent conviction for multi-billion Naira corruption.
The commission’s chairman, Ola Olukoyede, confirmed that operatives tracked down and arrested Mamman at 3:30 am on Tuesday during an early morning raid in Kaduna. Two individuals accused of harboring the convict were also arrested at the scene, and the property where they were discovered is now under active investigation by the anti-graft agency.
The arrest follows a ruling by the Federal High Court in Abuja on May 13, which found Mamman guilty on all 12 counts of financial misappropriation and money laundering brought against him.
The court handed down a total sentence of 75 years in prison in absentia for his involvement in the diversion of 33.8 billion Naira connected to the Mambilla and Zungeru hydroelectric power projects. With his capture, the fugitive former public official is expected to begin serving his prison term.
