Nigeria’s U-17 women’s national team, the Flamingos, produced a dominant display on Saturday as they defeated Guinea 5-0 in the first leg of their 2026 FIFA U-17 Women’s World Cup qualifying tie at the Stade Champroux in Abidjan.
The Nigerian side took control from the opening minute and never looked back, delivering a commanding performance that left their opponents struggling to cope.
Captain Harmony Chidi led the charge with a brilliant hat-trick, scoring in the 1st, 12th and 39th minutes to put Nigeria firmly in control of the contest.
Chidi opened the scoring inside the first minute with a composed finish before doubling the advantage 11 minutes later after another well-worked team move. She completed her treble before halftime, capitalising on defensive errors to extend Nigeria’s lead.

Kemi Adegbuyi added the third goal in the 37th minute, finishing neatly inside the box as Nigeria’s attacking pressure continued to overwhelm the Guinean defence.
The Flamingos maintained their dominance in the second half, controlling possession and preventing Guinea from creating any meaningful chances as they held firm defensively.
Nigeria later added a fifth goal to complete a comprehensive victory and take a strong advantage into the return leg.

The result puts coach Akeem Busari’s side in a commanding position ahead of the second leg scheduled for May 31, 2026, at the Remo Stars Stadium in Ikenne.
A positive result at home will see the Flamingos progress to the final qualifying round for the 2026 FIFA U-17 Women’s World Cup in Morocco.
