The Joint Task Force has warned of possible attacks by Boko Haram and Islamic State West Africa Province terrorists during the Eid El Kabir celebrations, and said it has deployed troops and surveillance assets to secure vulnerable areas.
In a statement on Monday, Lieutenant Colonel Sani Uba, Media Information Officer for Operation HADIN KAI, said there are indications that the groups may attempt isolated strikes using suicide bombers and improvised explosive devices in areas with large crowds.
The JTF said patrols have been intensified and security forces are working with sister agencies, the Civilian Joint Task Force, and community vigilance groups to prevent threats and ensure a safe festive period.
It advised the public to hold Eid prayers and festivities close to home where possible, avoid large open gatherings, and remain alert in crowded places such as markets, motor parks, banks, and prayer grounds. Residents were urged to report suspicious persons, unattended objects, or unusual movements to security authorities and to cooperate with personnel during patrols and screening.
The command also called on traditional rulers, religious leaders, media organisations, and community stakeholders to encourage timely reporting of credible security information. It said troops remain on standby and are prepared to deny terrorists any freedom of action during the celebrations.
