Tunisia have appointed French coach Herve Renard as head coach of the national team following the dismissal of Sabri Lamouchi in the wake of their 5-1 defeat to Sweden in their opening match of the 2026 FIFA World Cup.

The Tunisian Football Federation announced the decision on Monday through national broadcaster Télévision Tunisienne, confirming that Renard will remain in charge until the end of the tournament.
Federation president Moez Nassari said an agreement had been reached with the experienced French tactician to steer the Carthage Eagles through the remainder of their World Cup campaign.

“An official agreement has been reached with French coach Herve Renard to take charge of the national football team until the end of the 2026 World Cup,” the broadcaster quoted Nassari as saying.
Lamouchi, a former France international, had only been appointed Tunisia coach in January but was relieved of his duties after the heavy defeat to Sweden left the North Africans facing an uphill task to qualify for the knockout stage.
Renard arrives with a strong international pedigree, having guided Saudi Arabia to a shock 2-1 victory over eventual champions Argentina at the 2022 World Cup in Qatar. He most recently managed the France women’s national team.

The 56-year-old has also enjoyed considerable success in African football, winning the Africa Cup of Nations with Zambia in 2012 and Ivory Coast in 2015.
Tunisia will hope Renard’s experience can revive their World Cup campaign when they face Japan in a crucial Group F encounter on Saturday.
