The Edo State Police Command has announced a statewide restriction of movement from 12:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. on Saturday, July 11, 2026, as part of security measures for the conduct of the state’s local government elections.
The command said the restriction is aimed at ensuring a peaceful, orderly and secure electoral process and will be enforced in collaboration with other security agencies.
In a statement issued on Thursday by the Police Public Relations Officer, CSP Moses Yamu (or the named PPRO in the source if applicable), the police said all vehicular and human movement would be prohibited during the period.
However, officials of the Edo State Independent Electoral Commission (EDSIEC), accredited election observers, duly accredited journalists, security personnel, emergency responders and other essential service providers on official election duty will be exempted from the restriction.

The command disclosed that security operatives have been strategically deployed across the state’s 18 local government areas to enforce the directive, safeguard voters, electoral officials and sensitive materials, and prevent any breakdown of law and order during the polls.
The police warned that anyone found violating the movement restriction or engaging in activities capable of disrupting the electoral process would be arrested and prosecuted in accordance with the law.
Meanwhile, the Commissioner of Police, Monday Agbonika, assured residents that adequate security measures had been put in place to guarantee a peaceful and credible election.
He urged eligible voters to remain law-abiding and conduct themselves peacefully while exercising their civic responsibility in line with the guidelines issued by the Edo State Independent Electoral Commission.
The commissioner reaffirmed the command’s commitment to ensuring that the local government elections are conducted in a free, fair, peaceful and credible atmosphere.
