The South African Football Association (SAFA) has dismissed reports claiming that Hugo Broos has stepped down as head coach of the country’s senior men’s national team, insisting the Belgian remains in charge of Bafana Bafana.
In a statement, SAFA described the reports linking Broos with an exit as false, reaffirming that the 74-year-old coach continues to lead the national team.

The association noted that this is not the first time Broos has been linked with a departure following a successful international campaign. In 2024, he was reportedly set to take over the Tunisian national team shortly after guiding South Africa to a third-place finish at the Africa Cup of Nations in Côte d’Ivoire, claims that were later dismissed.
Broos recently returned from the 2026 FIFA World Cup, where he led Bafana Bafana to a historic achievement by reaching the knockout stage of the tournament for the first time.
South Africa secured qualification for the Round of 32 after defeating South Korea 1-0 in their final group-stage match in Monterrey, Mexico.
The Belgian tactician is currently on holiday in his home country and is expected to return to South Africa later this month to resume preparations with the national team.
SAFA reiterated that Broos remains fully committed to his role as Bafana Bafana coach despite the recent speculation over his future.
