Troops of the 149 Battalion (Motorised) and members of the Civilian Joint Task Force have arrested a suspected ISWAP informant during an intelligence-led operation in Gubio Local Government Area of Borno State.
The arrest happened around 5:00 p.m. on July 14, 2026, in Gubio town, following information linking the man to terrorist activity in the area.
In a video shared by security analyst Zagazola Makama, the suspect made a confession in Hausa during preliminary questioning. He admitted to working for ISWAP and to taking part in the June 16, 2026 attack on Gubio. One CJTF member was killed in that attack while defending the community.
The suspect said his hometown is Gubio and denied having any family ties to members of the terrorist group.
He told interrogators that a man he knows as “Adam Boko Haram” was both his friend and recruiter. He said they met on the road and that Adam gave him tasks. One of the tasks, he said, was to buy Tramadol for the group.
When asked how long he had known Adam, the suspect said less than two months, and that their relationship started this year.
He also described his role in the June 16 attack. According to him, terrorists intercepted him before the raid and ordered him to lead them to their target. He said three motorcycles picked him up, while the full convoy had about 30 motorcycles.
The suspect said he guided the fighters to the location. He was then told to sit down once shooting began. After the attack, he said the gunmen came back for him and they all fled together.
He stated that after he pointed out the location, the terrorists spread out and opened fire.
Security forces say investigations are ongoing.
