Troops of Operation HADIN KAI have detained a man in Munguno LGA after finding satellite internet gear in his possession during a routine stop along the Maiduguri–Monguno road.
According to counter-insurgency outlet Zagazola Makama, soldiers from the 212 Battalion at Delta One flagged the man around 3pm on Wednesday for what they called suspicious behavior. A search turned up a Starlink satellite terminal, a Wi-Fi router with six access points, a mobile phone and N1,000 cash.
The suspect told the troops he runs an internet service business in his community and that the equipment was for commercial use. Security officials, however, said the timing of his movement and the nature of the devices raised enough red flags for further checks.
He has since been moved to the Military Intelligence Brigade, 7 MIB, for profiling and analysis. Investigators will look into whether the Starlink kit had already been deployed, who else may be linked to it, and if it was meant to support communications or logistics for ISWAP or Jama’atu Ahlis Sunna Lidda’awati wal-Jihad.
