A faction of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), led by former Minister of Special Duties, Kabiru Turaki (SAN), has said it submitted the names of former President Goodluck Jonathan and other candidates to the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) for the 2027 general elections.

The faction also disclosed that it had appealed a recent judgment of the Federal High Court in Abuja concerning the leadership crisis within the party.

The position was made public on Friday at a press conference in Abuja addressed by the National Publicity Secretary of the Interim National Working Committee (INWC), Ini Ememobong.

Ememobong said the interim leadership emerged following a Supreme Court judgment on the PDP leadership crisis, which, according to the faction, left the party without a legally recognised national leadership.

He said the party’s authentic leadership had validly nominated Jonathan as its presidential candidate for the 2027 election, alongside candidates for governorship, National Assembly and state assembly positions.

According to him, the party’s Board of Trustees, together with a member-requisitioned National Executive Committee, subsequently constituted the Interim National Working Committee to oversee the affairs of the party.

Ememobong added that the decision to constitute the interim leadership was formally communicated to INEC.

The development comes amid an ongoing leadership dispute within the PDP, with rival factions laying claim to the party’s legitimate leadership and control ahead of the 2027 general elections.
