A 23-year-old student of the Nigerian Law School has died after falling from the rooftop of the Lagos campus hostel.
The student, Faith Alayande, was enrolled at the Enugu campus and was in Lagos for the school’s externship programme. According to the school management, the incident happened around 4:00am on Friday, August 7, 2026.
In a statement released on Monday, Aderonke Osho, Secretary to the Council and Director of Administration, said preliminary findings show Alayande died from injuries sustained in the fall.
“The Nigerian Law School is deeply saddened by this tragic development,” the statement said. “Management is working closely with the appropriate authorities and the family to establish the circumstances surrounding the incident, ensure that all necessary procedures are duly followed, and provide further information as appropriate.”
The Lagos State Police Command confirmed it received a report from the hostel matron after the student was found unresponsive on the premises. Police officers visited the scene and moved the body to a morgue. An investigation is ongoing.
The school extended condolences to Alayande’s family, classmates, and others affected. It also said the family has asked for privacy and urged the public and media to respect that request.
“The Management of the Nigerian Law School respectfully appeals to everyone to honour the family’s wishes and refrain from any actions that may further compound their grief at this difficult moment,” the statement added.
The school also restated its commitment to the safety and welfare of all students and staff.
