The All Progressives Congress will hold its primary elections on Saturday, August 22, 2026, to pick candidates for four reinstated State House of Assembly seats and several legislative bye-elections across four states.
The party released the timetable on Wednesday. It was signed by National Organising Secretary, Sulaiman Argungu. The schedule follows INEC’s decision to restore four State Assembly constituencies in Delta and Kogi after court rulings.
Where the primaries will hold
Restored constituencies:
- Delta State: Abraka, Isoko North II, and Ughelli South II
- Kogi State: Yagba West II
Legislative bye-elections:
- Gombe State: Gombe/Kwami/Funakaye Federal Constituency. The seat became vacant after the death of Rep. Tongo Yaya
- Bauchi State: Disina and Sakwa State Constituencies
- Delta State: Udu State Constituency
- Kano State: Dawakin Kudu State Constituency
Key dates
- Aug 18–20: Sale of nomination and expression of interest forms
- Aug 20: Deadline for submission of forms
- Aug 21: Screening of aspirants, publication of results, and screening appeals
- Aug 22: Primary elections
- Aug 24: Election appeals
Nomination fees
- State House of Assembly: N1m for expression of interest + N5m nomination = N6m total
- House of Representatives: N1m for expression of interest + N9m nomination = N10m total
The APC said female aspirants, youth, and persons with disabilities will pay the full expression of interest fee but only 50% of the nomination fee for each position. All payments must go directly into the party’s designated bank account.
The four Assembly seats in Delta and Kogi had been suppressed for years. Their restoration means residents in those areas will now have direct representation in their state legislatures.
The party said the timetable covers both the restored constituencies and the upcoming bye-elections in Gombe, Bauchi, Delta, and Kano.
