Veteran Peoples Democratic Party chieftain Chief Daniel Osi Orbih has died at the age of 64.
The family announced his passing on Monday, August 31, 2026. In a statement signed by Francis Udukhomoi Orbih on behalf of the Orbih family, they said the death occurred “in total submission to the will of the Almighty God.”
Chief Orbih was a prominent PDP figure and traditional title holder. He held several chieftaincy titles including Kulukulu I of Ogoni Land, Oduma of Uzairue, Agbokhaivho II of Avianwu clan, Enakhaimhoi of Anegbete, Esama of Uromi, and Eze Oha I of Mburubu.
He was born on October 27, 1961, in Ogbona, Etsako Central Local Government, Edo State, to Chief and Mrs. M.C.K. Orbih.
His education began at Catholic Central School, Afashio, and continued at Our Lady of Fatima College, Auchi. He completed his Advanced Level at Advanced College, Igueben, before gaining admission to the University of Benin in 1981. He graduated in 1984 with a Bachelor of Arts in History.
Orbih later earned a Certification in International Petroleum Management from Eni in Rome, Italy in 2006, and a Certification in Corporate Leadership from Harvard Business School in Boston in 2007.
In public service, he served as Director on the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation Group Board and as a member of the Governing Council of the University of Port Harcourt. He also served on various PDP committees at state and national levels. In 1999, he ran as deputy governorship candidate of the All Peoples Party in Edo State.
He is survived by his wife, Mrs. Florence Orbih, and his daughters, Ms. Winifred Anwosiobor Orbih and Dr. Mildred Omonemi Orbih, along with siblings and other extended family members.
The family asked for prayers during this period and said funeral arrangements will be announced later. “May his soul rest in perfect peace,” the statement concluded.
Tributes have begun to pour in, with political associates describing him as a loyal party man and bridge builder across party lines.
