Peter Obi was in Abuja on Monday for the official opening of Seyi Makinde’s campaign office, the latest sign that opposition politics is gearing up early for 2027.
The NDC presidential candidate attended the inauguration of the Allied Peoples Movement, APM, office in the Federal Capital Territory. Makinde, governor of Oyo State, is the APM flagbearer for the next election.
APM National Leader and Bauchi State Governor, Bala Mohammed, addressed the gathering and warned rivals not to write off the party.
“Whoever disregards us is at his own peril,” Mohammed said. “We are here to reset Nigeria and we are bringing in one of the best human capitals that Nigeria has ever produced at the sub-national and national level, that is Makinde.”
Footage from the event showed Obi seated beside Mohammed during the ceremony.
The launch follows a meeting in Ibadan on April 25, where opposition parties made a public commitment to unite behind a single presidential candidate to challenge President Bola Tinubu and the APC in 2027.
With both Obi of the NDC and Makinde of the APM positioning for the race, their appearance together has reignited discussions about possible collaboration among opposition blocs in the coming months.
