Bandits launched a devastating attack on Zurak village in the Bashar District of Wase local government area, Plateau State, on Monday, killing more than 40 people, including vigilantes.

The attack occurred around 5 p.m. as villagers went about their daily activities. Due to poor communication networks, residents were unable to immediately report the incident.

Sahpi’i Sambo, a local youth leader, confirmed the attack to Daily Trust. He described how the bandits, armed with sophisticated weapons, arrived on motorcycles and began shooting indiscriminately.

“More than 40 people were killed, and many others were injured. The village residents have fled to nearby communities for safety. As of yesterday, security personnel had not yet arrived. It was deadly,” Sambo reported.

The spokesperson for the state police command, DSP Alabo Alfred, had not responded to inquiries at the time of this report.
