The House of Representatives Committee on National Security and Intelligence has recommended that the Federal Government acquire new aircraft for President Bola Tinubu and Vice-President Kashim Shettima.
This suggestion follows the committee’s investigation into the current status of the presidential air fleet.
The committee’s report highlights concerns over the technical and operational adequacy of the existing fleet, emphasizing the potential risks to national security.

“Given the fragile structure of the Nigerian federation and the dire consequences of any mishap, it is in the country’s best interest to procure two additional aircraft,” the report states.
The committee also notes the long-term cost-efficiency and the need for suitable, comfortable, and safe carriers for the nation’s top offices.
The investigation was initiated in May after a motion by Satomi Ahmed, chairman of the House Committee, amid reports of faulty aircraft in the fleet. The debate over the motion saw some lawmakers suggesting alternative travel methods for the President, including commercial flights or road travel.
