Chief Emmanuel Iwuanyanwu, the President General of Ohanaeze Ndigbo, has passed away at the age of 82. His son, Jide Iwuanyanwu, confirmed the news in a statement released on Thursday, July 25.

Chief Iwuanyanwu died in Abuja after a brief illness.

“The Iwuanyanwu family, hailing from Umuohii Atta in the Ikeduru Local Government Area of Imo State, mourns the loss of their patriarch, Engr Chief Emmanuel Chukwuemeka Iwuanyanwu-Ahaejiagamba Ndigbo,” the statement reads.

Before his passing, Chief Iwuanyanwu served as the President General of Ohanaeze Ndigbo worldwide and the President of the Owerri Peoples Assembly. He is survived by his wife, Lady Princess Frances Iwuanyanwu, as well as several children and grandchildren.
