In response to the recent violence trailing the #EndBadGovernance protests, the Kaduna State Police Command has barricaded the road leading to the Government House in the state capital. This action follows an attempted attack on the Government House by hoodlums on Thursday.
On Friday, a combined team of security operatives, including policemen, civil defence personnel, and members of the state vigilance service, could be seen enforcing a water-tight surveillance along the road leading to the state’s seat of power. The barricade was erected to prevent hoodlums from gaining access to the general area and other surrounding communities.
The police authorities have urged parents and guardians to restrain their wards from disturbing public peace during the protests. In a statement released by state police spokesman Mansir Hassan, the Command advised groups intending to protest to liaise with the Commissioner of Police to establish modalities for a peaceful protest.
“The somewhat peaceful protest has been hijacked by hoodlums who took undue advantage of the so-called faceless sponsors and unleashed their planned mayhem on the state,” Hassan said. “Consequently, the unruly miscreants attempted to gain access into the Kaduna State Government House before they were resisted by the security personnel at the said location. They injured two policemen and broke the glasses of a Police armoured personnel carrier stationed at the entrance of the Government House.”
Hassan continued, “They subsequently attacked the office and staff of the Kaduna State Traffic Law Enforcement Agency (KASTLEA) and torched the former along with adjoining other State Government offices.”
The police reported that twenty-five hoodlums were arrested with exhibits indicating their violent tendencies. The confiscated items included scissors, a jackknife, and live 7.62 X 39mm ammunition recovered from one Hassan Ibrahim of Rigasa area, Kaduna. Additionally, one suspect was arrested dressed in a police camouflage uniform for deception.
As tensions continue to rise, the authorities are keen on ensuring that the protests do not spiral further into violence, emphasizing the need for coordination and peaceful conduct from all parties involved.
