Nigeria: Ogun State Sets Date for Local Government Elections in November

The Ogun State Independent Electoral Commission has announced that local government elections will be held on Saturday, November 16, 2024, across the state’s 20 local government areas.

Babatunde Osibodu, the Chairman of the commission, revealed in a statement on Tuesday that the guidelines for conducting the elections will be released on Thursday, August 8, 2024. A stakeholders meeting is also scheduled for the same day. Campaigns by political parties are set to commence on Friday, August 9, 2024.

Osibodu stated that political parties are expected to hold their primaries from Monday, August 26 to Monday, September 9, 2024. Currently, civil servants are overseeing the local government councils following the completion of the elected officials’ tenure last week, pending the election of new chairmen.
