The National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) has refuted claims circulating on social media that corps members’ bank accounts are being upgraded to accommodate a new national minimum wage of N70,000.
In a statement released by NYSC’s Director of Information and Public Relations, Eddy Megwa, on Saturday, the corps emphasized that no directive has been issued by any relevant authority regarding the payment of this new minimum wage to corps members or the upgrading of their bank accounts.
The NYSC described the reports as misleading and completely false, urging corps members not to fall prey to misinformation spread by those seeking to deceive the public.
The statement read: “The National Youth Service Corps management has become aware of misleading information circulating in the media about the payment of a N70,000 minimum wage to corps members and a directive to upgrade their accounts. This is entirely false and has no basis in truth.
“Corps members, parents, and the general public should be informed that no directive has been received from the government sector responsible for wage matters. As such, the NYSC cannot issue any information on this matter. Corps members are already familiar with the official channels of communication within the scheme and should disregard any false directives.
“The NYSC strongly advises corps members not to be misled by those who seek to manipulate their intelligence with false information. Bloggers and social media influencers are also cautioned against making unauthorized statements concerning the management of the National Youth Service Corps.”
