President Tinubu to Swear in Justice Kudirat Kekere-Ekun as Nigeria’s 23rd Chief Justice

President Bola Tinubu is set to inaugurate Justice Kudirat Kekere-Ekun as the Chief Justice of Nigeria on August 23, 2024. The swearing-in ceremony will take place at the State House Council Chambers in Abuja.

Justice Kekere-Ekun will be taking over from Justice Olukayode Ariwoola, who officially retired on Thursday. In a statement, Tinubu’s Special Adviser on Media and Publicity, Ajuri Ngelale, confirmed that the President will administer the oath of office to Justice Kekere-Ekun, marking her elevation to the apex position in the judiciary.

Tinubu also extended his congratulations to the outgoing Chief Justice, Justice Ariwoola, praising his “successful public service career” and his notable contributions to the judiciary. He commended Ariwoola for his leadership and efforts in enriching Nigeria’s legal system, expressing his gratitude for the justice’s dedication to the nation.

Justice Ariwoola, who was appointed as the Chief Justice in October 2022 by former President Muhammadu Buhari, served in various capacities, including as a Justice of the Court of Appeal in the Kaduna, Enugu, and Lagos divisions before his promotion to the Supreme Court in 2011.

President Tinubu, in his statement, acknowledged Ariwoola’s impactful leadership and wished him well in his future endeavors.

Dada Olusegun, a special assistant to the President, also shared the announcement on his X account, confirming that Justice Kekere-Ekun will be sworn in as the 23rd Chief Justice of Nigeria at the State House Council Chambers.
