Nigeria and Atalanta Forward, Ademola Lookman has been nominated for the 2024 Ballon d’Or.

Lookman’s nomination for the 2024 Ballon d’Or has sparked optimism that he could follow in the footsteps of Victor Osimhen as the next African Footballer of the Year. The Atalanta forward’s exceptional performances in Serie A, including a historic hat trick in the UEFA Europa League final and a standout showing at the 2023 AFCON, have earned him a spot on the prestigious shortlist.

Lookman is the only African player among this year’s Ballon d’Or nominees, continuing the legacy set by Osimhen, who made history last year by finishing eighth in the rankings, surpassing numerous global superstars.

The Super Eagles have already celebrated Lookman’s achievement, sharing a congratulatory message on their official X page: “Congratulations to our own @Alookman_ on being nominated for the @ballondor award. Good luck, Demola #soarsupereagles.”

He is the eighth Nigerian to be nominated for the prestigious individual awards after the likes of Finidi George, Daniel Amokachi, Jay-Jay Okocha, Kanu Nwankwo, Victor Ikpeba, Sunday Oliseh and Victor Osimhen.
