This is contained in a timetable signed by Mrs Hajara Mohammed, Chairman of the Commission, issued in Kaduna on Friday.

It showed that the screening exercise for all the chairmanship and councillorship candidates has been scheduled to be held from Monday, September 9 to Monday, September 16, from 9 am to 6 am daily at the respective local government headquarters.

“I wish to refer to Section 19 of the Kaduna State Independent Electoral Commission Law 2024, item No. 9 of the 2024 Local Government Council Election Time Table and P.9 item No. 3 of the Guidelines.

“Based on the above, you are by the notice informed that the screening exercise for the prospective chairmanship and councillorship candidates is scheduled to hold from Monday, Sept. 9 to Monday, Sept. 16, 2024, from 9 am to 6 am daily,” the timetable said.

President Bola Tinubu lauded the Supreme Court’s judgment affirming the constitutional rights of local governments in July, emphasising its critical role in advancing effective governance at the grassroots level.

He emphasised that the responsibility is now on local council leaders to deliver people-oriented services, ensuring that Nigerians at the grassroots feel the impact of governance.
