President Tinubu Calls for Peaceful Conduct Ahead of Edo State Governorship Elections

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has urged all stakeholders in the upcoming Edo State governorship elections to conduct themselves peacefully and sportingly. The election is set for Saturday, September 21, 2024.

In a statement issued by his Special Adviser on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, the president implored governorship candidates, political parties, and their supporters to respect the democratic process and uphold the will of the people. He expressed confidence in voters’ ability to make informed decisions about their future leaders, emphasizing that democracy thrives on civility, tolerance, and respect for the rules.

President Tinubu acknowledged the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) for its commitment to conducting a free and fair election and called on all stakeholders to collaborate for a successful and peaceful process. He commended candidates and parties for focusing their campaigns on critical issues affecting the people of Edo State, such as improving livelihoods and promoting economic growth.

He also encouraged citizens to remain peaceful during the voting process and to resolve any disputes amicably through established authorities. Furthermore, the president expressed confidence in the professionalism and integrity of security agencies and INEC officials, urging them to maintain impartiality and safeguard the electoral process.
