Lagos police authorities have summoned three officers accused of extorting ₦1 million from NYSC corps members in Surulere.

The incident, which surfaced on social media late Friday, was highlighted by a social media user, Oluyemi Fasipe, who shared videos of the encounter. According to Fasipe, the officers allegedly threatened the corps members with firearms, “kidnapped” them, and took them to the Kafaru Oluwole Tinubu House Area C Police Command, where they were forced to pay ₦1 million. The supposed offense was the absence of a physical copy of a driver’s license.

In one video, the police were seen checking the car occupants’ documents, escalating tensions, which led to more officers arriving. One officer was also seen entering the car and demanding they stop filming and refrain from calling loved ones.

Responding to the post on X (formerly Twitter), Lagos State Police Command spokesman Benjamin Hundeyin confirmed that the involved officers had been summoned, and their trial had begun. He also urged the complainants to visit the Complaint Response Unit at the State Headquarters to assist with the ongoing investigation.
