Speaking to newsmen on Thursday, REA’s Managing Director, Abba Aliyu, revealed that the project, titled Distributed Renewable Energy Scaleup, will harness renewable energy sources to bring power to underserved areas.

“This $750 million project, financed by the World Bank, is one of the most ambitious in the world, targeting electricity for 17.5 million Nigerians,” Aliyu stated.

He also highlighted that aside from India, no other country has undertaken such a large-scale rural electrification project.

In addition, Aliyu noted that the agency plans to offer affordable energy alternatives to tertiary institutions, utilizing renewable energy solutions to reduce costs and promote sustainability.
