Nigeria’s Super Eagles forward, Taiwo Awoniyi has bolstered the Flying Eagles’ preparations for their WAFU B U20 tournament final against Ghana’s Black Satellites by donating 2.5 million naira.

The Nottingham Forest star’s contribution adds to recent support from Leicester City’s Wilfred Ndidi, who gave 5 million naira to inspire the team before their semifinal victory over Niger Republic’s Junior Mena, where they won 3-1.

Support has also poured in from other prominent Nigerians. Deputy Senate President Senator Barau Jibrin contributed 2 million naira, while Frank Peters, Chairman of Crystal Sapphire Ltd., donated 1.5 million naira and pledged additional support if the team triumphed over Niger. Additionally, Lagos State Football Association Chairman Alhaji Gafar Liameed donated 1 million naira.

Team media officer Sharif Abdullah confirmed these contributions, expressing gratitude for the outpouring of support from Nigerians.

The Flying Eagles, who rebounded from an initial loss to Burkina Faso with victories over Côte d’Ivoire and Niger, are now set to face Ghana in the WAFU B final on Wednesday. Head coach Aliyu Zubairu praised his players’ resilience, highlighting their determined comeback after the early setback.

With their qualification for the 2024 AFCON U20 tournament secured, the Flying Eagles now aim to retain their WAFU B title, which they won two years ago.
