The Lagos State Government has responded to a circulating report claiming that Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu has initiated legal action against the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) over an alleged plan to arrest and prosecute him after his tenure.

According to the state’s Attorney General and Commissioner for Justice, Lawal Pedro, SAN, there is no truth to this claim.

Pedro clarified that Governor Sanwo-Olu has not filed, nor instructed any lawyer to file, any suit against the EFCC. Additionally, he emphasized that as an incumbent governor, Sanwo-Olu enjoys constitutional immunity, with nearly three years remaining in his tenure. Pedro further confirmed that no investigations, invitations, or threats of arrest have been made against the governor or any of his staff by the EFCC.

“We are actively looking into how this misinformation surfaced without our awareness,” Pedro stated. He also underscored the governor’s dedication to responsible governance and prudent management of public resources, assuring that Sanwo-Olu has nothing to fear when he completes his tenure in May 2027.

The statement concluded with a caution to media outlets, urging them to verify information carefully to avoid misleading the public.
