The Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Police Command has dismissed claims of a bomb explosion in Abuja, clarifying that the incident near a refuse dump in Maitama was not bomb-related.

Recall, on Wednesday, AAN TV reported that a loud blast shook the Maitama area of Abuja, Nigeria’s capital, sending shockwaves through the community and triggering online reactions.

The incident quickly became the focal point of discussions on X (formerly called Twitter), with users sharing their experiences and theories about the source of the loud explosion.

However, Police Public Relations Officer SP Josephine Adeh revealed that an overheated metal refuse container exploded under intense heat, causing injuries to two evacuators.

A rapid response team and Explosive Ordnance Disposal Unit assessed the situation, with affected individuals currently receiving medical attention at Maitama General Hospital.

Adeh advised the public to avoid metal refuse bins, suggesting the use of plastic or rubber containers for safer waste disposal.
