Hon. Suliyat Yetunde Oguns, representing Somolu Constituency 02 in the Lagos State Youth Parliament, has made history by organizing the first-ever Legislative Summit in Bariga Local Council Development Area (LCDA).


The groundbreaking event drew a distinguished array of dignitaries led by the Chairman of the Local Government Barr. Kolade Alabi David with discussions centered on empowering youth for greater participation in governance and transitioning from grassroots activism into mainstream politics.


Prominent attendees included representatives of Senator Tokunbo Abiru, Hon. Mahruf Odunare, and Hon. Samuel Olufemi Apata, as well as Hon. Rotimi Olowo and Hon. Abdul-Lateef Abiru, former members of the Lagos State House of Assembly for Somolu Constituencies 01 and 02.

The Lagos State Commissioner for Youth, Hon. Mobolaji Ogunlende, was ably represented, alongside six Senior Special Assistants to the Governor of Lagos State, including Hon. Kunle Dabiri (SSA LASAA), Amb. Ruth Lijirin (SSA Civic Engagement), and Comr. Biliamin Olalekan Oba (SSA Social Development).

Others included Hon. Alabi Opeyemi (SSA Youth Mobilization), Hon. Saheed Balogun (SSA Legislative and Political), Amb. Oluwatobi Oladepo (SSA Special Duties), and Amb. Toyin Atanda (SSA Business and Training).


The event also welcomed the State Chairman of the National Youth Council of Nigeria (NYCN) Lagos, officials from the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) led by Mr. Abubakar, and Bariga LCDA councillors under the leadership of Hon. Temitope Okanlawon.

A key highlight of the summit was the in-depth dialogue on the role of youth in governance and their potential to shape the future of Nigerian politics.

Participants emphasized the importance of bridging the gap between grassroots initiatives and high-level political engagement.
The summit was lauded as a significant milestone in fostering youth empowerment and setting a precedent for legislative engagement within the Bariga LCDA.
