The Managing Director of the Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria (FAAN), Mrs. Olubunmi Kuku, has called on Lagos airport security personnel to uphold professionalism in their duties.

Speaking at the unveiling of the “Operation Air Clean” initiative on Tuesday in Lagos, Kuku expressed dissatisfaction with overlapping responsibilities and excessive security checks that continue to disrupt operations at the Murtala Muhammed International Airport (MMIA).

Kuku warned that unprofessional behavior by any security personnel would not be tolerated, emphasizing that punitive measures would be enforced against errant officials. Addressing the heads of security agencies at the airport, she urged them to address these issues immediately, highlighting how such conduct has led to flight delays and created a chaotic airport environment.

“Investors are complaining. Lagos Airport is their first impression of Nigeria, and it is unacceptable for that impression to be chaos and inefficiency,” Kuku stated.

She also criticized inappropriate interactions between security personnel and passengers, describing them as “appalling.”

“I have a very clear directive for team leads, department heads, and the leaders of organizations at the airport. If your organization is found wanting, it reflects a failure on your part as a leader, and ultimately, it means I have failed. This behavior must stop,” she said.

Kuku further condemned the practice of airport agencies allegedly giving monetary returns to their superiors. “The airport is no longer a place to come and make money, and this applies to all, including AVSEC,” she added.

The FAAN MD called for unified action among all agencies to enforce zero tolerance for misconduct, ensuring the Lagos airport operates efficiently and professionally.
