The leader of the Sudanese army, Abdel Fattah Al Burhan, has expressed support for Turkey’s initiative to mediate the protracted 20-month conflict between his forces and their paramilitary adversaries.

Speaking during a meeting in Port Sudan, Al Burhan urged Turkey’s Deputy Foreign Minister to relay his appreciation to President Recep Tayyip Erdogan for the proposed peace efforts.

The war in Sudan has led to devastating consequences, with tens of thousands killed and over 12 million displaced. The country now teeters on the edge of famine, as experts caution that external involvement could further exacerbate the humanitarian crisis.
