An eyewitness has revealed that the explosion at the Sani Uthman Islamiyya School in Kuchibuyi Village, Bwari area council of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) on Monday was caused by a bomb brought to school by one of the students. The blast tragically claimed two lives and injured two others.

The school, a three-classroom block designed for nomadic education (Almajiri school), was the site of the explosion. The student, who had arrived from Katsina State the day before the incident, reportedly showed the explosive to another child, causing it to detonate. The first boy holding the device died instantly, while the second boy succumbed to his injuries at the hospital.

A little girl and another boy survived the blast, with the girl receiving treatment at Kubwa General Hospital and the boy referred to the University of Abuja Teaching Hospital for further care.

The school premises have been sealed off by the FCT police, and disturbing images of the aftermath emerged on Tuesday. Initially, the FCT Police Spokesperson, Josephine Adeh, issued a statement suggesting that three men from Katsina had brought the explosives to the school, which differed from eyewitness accounts. She stated that the police had launched a full investigation, with the FCT Bomb Squad confirming the use of an improvised explosive device (IED).

The school owner, Mallam Adamu Ashimu, has been taken into custody for questioning, while the investigation continues. The FCT Commissioner of Police, Olatunji Disu, urged the public to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activity.
