At least 46 people, including women and children, have reportedly been kidnapped during a violent raid on Gana town in Zamfara State.
The attack, which occurred around 10 p.m. on Sunday, saw dozens of armed men on motorbikes storming the town, shooting sporadically, and setting homes and businesses ablaze.
Eyewitnesses described scenes of chaos as residents fled into nearby bushes to escape the gunmen, who proceeded to conduct a house-to-house search, abducting those who couldn’t escape.
This incident follows a similar attack about a month ago in Kakidawa, Gidan Goga district of Maradun LGA, where at least 43 people were kidnapped.
The rising wave of kidnappings for ransom continues to plague Nigeria’s northern region despite intensified military operations. Last month, troops reportedly neutralized several terrorists in Tsafe LGA after weeks of intelligence-led operations targeting hideouts.
Despite these efforts, insecurity remains a persistent challenge, with communities like Gana town bearing the brunt of recurring attacks.
