Nigerian President Bola Tinubu has assured Ghana’s newly inaugurated President, John Mahama, of Nigeria’s unwavering support for his administration.
Tinubu, who also serves as the President of the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS) Authority of Heads of State and Government, made this pledge during Mahama’s inauguration ceremony in Accra, Ghana.
Tinubu emphasized the importance of African nations building strong economies to uplift their people. “We have nothing to prove to anyone except ourselves,” he said. “We will lift our nations out of poverty and build strong and resilient economies for our people”.
The Nigerian leader also acknowledged the critics of Africa, stating that their negative comments only serve as a reminder of the continent’s potential. “While others may seem to demean Africa and keep brothers pitting against brothers, that shining star reminds us of who we are; better yet, it reminds us of who we can be,” he said.
Tinubu praised Mahama as a man of patriotism, vision, and substance, who loves his nation and people deeply. He expressed confidence that Mahama’s administration would bring about positive change and progress, not only for Ghana but also for the entire West African region.
The inauguration ceremony marked a significant moment in Ghana’s history, with Tinubu’s presence underscoring the strong bond between Nigeria and Ghana. As Tinubu noted, “The spirit of the former president, Dr. Kwame Nkrumah, is here present today, lifting that star higher and higher”.
