The study revealed a deep thickness of around 3.5 km, suggesting a high potential for hydrocarbon discoveries.

Additionally, 13 structural pockets and potential drilling locations were mapped, paving the way for further exploration and potential development.

RMB is now seeking to attract industry players to advance exploration and move towards the development and production of oil and gas resources in the Lake Kivu basin.

The discovery has the potential to transform Rwanda’s energy landscape and contribute to the country’s economic growth.
