The United States is set to impose sanctions on Sudanese leader Abdel Fattah al-Burhan due to the Sudanese Armed Forces’ actions against civilians and civilian infrastructure.
The sanctions, expected to be announced Thursday, come after reports of the SAF’s targeting of civilians, denial of aid access, and refusal to participate in peace talks last year.
The move is part of the US government’s efforts to hold accountable those responsible for human rights abuses in Sudan.
This development follows previous sanctions imposed on Sudanese individuals and entities, including Mohammad Hamdan Daglo Mousa, the leader of Sudan’s Rapid Support Forces, who was sanctioned on January 7, 2025.
