Nigeria: Osun Footballer Dies After Collapsing During Tournament Final

The Osun State Police Command has confirmed the death of Adeyemi Adewale, a 29-year-old footballer who collapsed during the Adeleke Memorial Cup Final in Osogbo on Thursday.

Adewale, a member of the Ilesa West Local Government Area football team, was participating in the match at Ataoja School of Science when he suddenly collapsed on the field. Efforts to save him proved unsuccessful, as he was rushed to the Osun State University Teaching Hospital, where medical personnel pronounced him dead.

The spokesperson for the Osun Police Command, Yemisi Opalola, confirmed the tragic incident in a statement to journalists, adding that an investigation into the circumstances surrounding his death is underway.

The event, meant to showcase athleticism and community spirit, was overshadowed by the loss, leaving teammates, fans, and organizers in mourning.
